Continuing Care

Having a funeral or memorial service for your loved one is a way to honor their life and help you and the community with the beginning of your grief journey. Family and friends are given the chance to say good bye and at the same time, you can share your feelings with one another.

When the service is concluded support is still important and you will need others on which to lean. They can offer you understanding, encouragement and guidance. For that reason, many local and national support groups have formed. These groups provide a common place and a safe environment for expressing emotions through your grief journey. Thomas McAfee has also put together a list of Recommended Reading that we’ve listed here on our website.

Our Continuing Care Coordinator is Brenda F. Atkinson, M.Div

Dear Visitor,

Thank you for visiting our web site. As the Continuing Care Coordinator for Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to help those grieving as they begin their new journey through grief. It is an opportunity to give support and information about the process of grief. The beginning of this journey can be difficult and it is my desire and the desire of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home to give individuals and families a safe place to “give their grief its voice” as they learn to live their lives without the physical presence of their loved one.

Bereavement Support can provide…

  • availability of support at the time of viewing, funeral and afterwards, in person or by phone or mailings…
  • books through our lending library that will help you understand your loss and begin the process of journeying through your grief…
  • a list of support groups in the Upstate area…
  • referrals to groups, workshops, retreats, counselors and other resources…
  • invitations to holiday memorial programs as well as other community grief education events…
  • information about grief education materials for all ages…
  • there is no cost for this service.
