Barbara Jean Lembcke, 82, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014, with her family by her side. Born on April 9, 1932, in Madera, CA, she was the daughter of the late William Dean and Florence Eiland Murdock. Barbara graduated from Madera High School in 1950 and received a BA in social work from Fresno State College in 1956. She married Herb Lembcke in 1953, and they lived together in California until relocating to Greenville in 2006. Barbara was very active in volunteer work in the Lutheran church at the local, national and international levels. In addition to being an early LGBT activist within the church, she created programming for immigrant inner-city children and youth in San Francisco. Barbara was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in San Francisco and Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville, SC. An outstanding home chef, Barbara also loved to read and developed a true library. Her extensive travels included visits to Nepal, China, India, Zimbabwe, Europe and Latin America. She particularly enjoyed the city of Venice. She adored her cat, Addy, and corgis, Chuckie, Lovie, and Susie. Known for her great sense of humor, Barbara loved everyone she met and devoted her life to helping others. She had a wonderful marriage of 61 years to her husband, Herb. They were true soul mates. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are their two children, Beth Love Sadler of Greenville and Mike Lembcke Sandra of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Kelly Love-Geiger Colin, Katelyn Love Phil, Charlotte Love, Maria Espinosa Juan and Catalina Silva; and seven great-grandchildren, Sune, Indie, Maya, Lyric, Juanes, Camilo and Emilio. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 421 North Main Street, Greenville. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J.
