As an OCS Candidate US Army 516A, second platoon, it was my honor to serve with Dan for those grueling 23 weeks until commissioning August 30, 1968. And Judy was there with him like the rest of his life. Fast forward about forty years, Dan made it his mission to track down all 53 of us and reunite us. His effort and example did more than most of us want to admit, truly healing many scars from the Viet Nam era. Because of Dan it is my privilege to be in regular contact with about many others from that unit. Thank you Dan, for all you did for so many. RIP, old soldier.

From the moment we walked into the Friendship Sunday School class at FBC Dan made us feel a part of it. We were so impressed by his knowledge and ability to share God’s word. He really devoted his time to our class. Faithful till the end to make sure our class did not miss a lesson. A true servant. God has a special place for him I know. Enjoy that glorification Dan. You will be forever with us. Phyllis Bingham

Recently I received a very kind letter from a Dan Goodwin in Simpsonville, SC. Apparently our paths had crossed in Vietnam some 50 years ago. Dan was seeking to establish if I was the helicopter pilot whose tactical call sign was “Cowboy 25”. Not only had he identified who I was, but in God’s providence determined we both live in Simpsonville, SC. Before we could link up God called Dan home.

The preceding posts regarding Dan speak volumes about his Christian character and selfless support of family, friends, church and community. I’m honored that our paths crossed. We shall meet again.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Judy, I wish we could have known Dan even better. I can see how blessed were his many close friends and family who shared his life of love and service. You were indeed both blessed by one another as life partners! Donna and Tommy Dowling

Dan was a great friend for 51 years. We served together in Vietnam as Engineer Advisors assigned to the Vinh Long province MACV Advisory Team #68. We both returned from Vietnam 50 years ago this year, I in June and Dan in August. Dan got me through the war. We didn’t smoke or drink or do drugs. We attended chapel together Sunday mornings at the Vinh Long airfield. We worked hard to practice our Christianity amidst the duties of being soldiers. We supported the local orphanage with our time and money. When off duty, we played canasta. Kathy and I became lifelong friends with Judy and Dan, looking forward to our regular B&B weekends with them. Kathy and Dan were great email pen pals, corresponding regularly. Green pastures are before me, Which yet I have not seen; Bright skies will soon be o’er me, Where darkest clouds have been. My hope I cannot measure, My path to life is free; My Savior has my treasure, And He will walk with me. Our deepest sympathy, Kathy & Rob Sommer
