Laura Kinion

April 10, 1952 - November 6, 2006
Laura H. Kinion, 54, of 925 Cleveland Street, lost her long 15 year battle with scleroderma on November 6, 2006 at Greenville University Hospital, North Greenville Campus Long Term Acute Care Unit in Travelers Rest. A native of Greenville, she was the daughter of Col and Mrs. J. Norris Kinion. Laura was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and Greenville Technical College in Secretarial Science. She was a secretary to the purchasing officer of Yeargan Construction Co. after leaving school. She then worked for the Greenville County Sheriff?s office as shift supervisor in the records division and finally was a 22 year employee of Elliott Davis Co. in their secretarial pool, retiring due to ill health in May 2006. Laura was a life long Methodist having grown up in Piedmont Park United Methodist Church. She was interested in history and held membership in The United Daughters of The Confederacy Greenville Chapter #51 where she was an active member and won awards for her work and her many proven ancestors. She also held membership in the Nathanael Greene DAR chapter which she also enjoyed very much. Laura was a member of the Colonial Dames of the XVII John Robins Chapter and the Piedmont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists. She was a member of the Society of Magna Charta Dames & Barons and was accepted into the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in 2003. Laura is survived by her parents, Norris and Helen Kinion; one sister, Margaret Ann Kinion Thomas and her husband James R. Thomas; and many special aunts uncles, and cousins. Also, very important to her many loyal friends made over her lifetime. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses and staff of the Greenville Memorial Hospital System for their untiring love and care shown to Laura in her long hospitalization preceding her death. Flowers are accepted however memorials may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923 Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park
