Louis Gilliam

Louis Gilliam, 83, of 122 Ells Country Estates, Piedmont, husband of Florence Campbell Gilliam, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at his residence. Born September 6, 1926 in Honea Path, he was a son of the late James Webster and Sudie Gambrell Gilliam. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Gilliam worked as a weaver with J.P. Stevens Dunean Plant with 42 years of service. Mr. Gilliam was a member of West Gantt First Baptist Church and also served as a deacon at Bethuel Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Florence Campbell Gilliam; two daughters, Marlene Smith and husband Rollis of Simpsonville and Dana Rhinehart and husband John of Easley; one son, Wayne Gilliam of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Lucille Smith of Wellford. Mr. Gilliam was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Alfred, Clyde, Millard, and Charlie Gilliam. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am at West Gantt First Baptist Church. Burial to follow the service in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of West Gantt First Baptist Church, 1452 White Horse Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, or Interim Healthcare Hospice West Team, 775 Spartan Blvd., Suite 101B, Spartanburg, SC 29301. The family is at the residence.
