Luther Hamby, Sr

Luther "Bub" Hamby, Sr., 88, of 105 Pisgah Drive, husband of Mary Cox Hamby, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at McCall Hospice House. Born in Simpsonville, he was the son of the late Willard Eugene and Pearlene Tucker Hamby. Mr. Hamby was retired from the Greenville News Piedmont and attended Piedmont Park Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps having served during World War II. He was a member of the Shriner's Lodge of Perfection and was a Scottish Rite Mason of the Taylors Lodge. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, are a daughter, Shelia Reeves of Kennesaw, GA; a son, Luther "Rocky" Hamby and wife, Claudia, of Taylors; four grandchildren, Angela Reeves Kennedy and husband, Col. Glenn Kennedy, of Evans, GA, John Reeves, Jr. and wife, Ginger, of Fayetteville, GA, Kim Maddox and husband, Joe, of Cartersville, GA and Sky Hamby and wife, Gwen, of Travelers Rest; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Fowler, Norma Hunter, Mary Limbaugh and Macie Link; and a brother, Charles Hamby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff and Leonard Hamby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piedmont Park Baptist Church, 801 Piedmont Park Road, Greenville, SC 29609. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in the downtown chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence.
