Matthew "Matt" Scott Orr, 25, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009. Matt was a graduate of Wren High School, Class of 2001 and was employed as a manager at Zaxby's. He was a passionate volunteer firefighter, serving with Powdersville Fire Department since he was a young teen. Matt dedicated his life to the care of, and service to the public through fire and EMS, and continued his love and compassion for others by giving the gift of life to many as an organ and tissue donor. He is survived by his wife, Nerissa, and four children, Katie, JP, Kiersten and Lauren, of the home; his grandparents, Bob and Evelyn Parrish, and Luther and Joyce Cooke; his parents, Beth Parrish and Henry "Buddy" and Diana Orr; his sisters, Deanna Murrell, her husband David and their children Kaitlyn Kahley and Ethan Murrell; Sharanda Thompson, her husband Bryan and their children, Caleb and Caroline; and Natasha Maddox. He was predeceased by his grandparents Charles and Pauline Orr. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2009, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service, celebrating his life, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley. Burial will follow at Robinson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Powdersville Fire Department, P.O. Box 51144, Piedmont, SC; or the American Heart Association, 310-B Bennett Center Drive, Greer, SC 29650. The family will be at 109 Bennington Lane, Easley.
