Reverend H.R. Saxon

February 27, 1923 - May 23, 2012
Reverend H.R. Saxon, 89, of Greenville, husband of Clara Lee Gosnell Saxon, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Adam Franklin and Lola Mary McDonald Saxon. Rev. Saxon served in the US Army during World War II. He graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and Luther Rice Seminary. He ministered at Westwood Baptist Church, Limestone Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Agnew Road Baptist Church and retired from Piedmont Heights Baptist Church. H.R. was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Ann Morgan Leroy of Greenville; a granddaughter, Cindy McSwain Barry of Piedmont; three great grandchildren, Talina Buckhiester Chris of Greenville, Amber McSwain of Greenville, and Jeff McSwain of Piedmont. Rev. Saxon was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Howard, Barron, and Jim Saxon; and three sisters, Ermie Stone, Ruby Edens, and Dot Pittman. Visitation will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. at the Northwest chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland West Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Piedmont Heights Baptist Church, 204 Anderson Street, Piedmont, SC 29673 or the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 726 Lowndes Hill Road, #C, Greenville, SC 29607. The family will be at the residence.
