Richard Manning Cox, of Marietta, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 12, 2024, at the age of 75.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Claude Manning Cox and Mary Louise Cantrell Cox.
He had a successful career as a truck driver for Wrangler. He was proud of earning his two-million-miles safe driving award. A U.S. Army veteran, he served his country as a Military Policeman. Richard’s memories will live on through the stories shared by those who knew and loved him. His commitment to his family, his dedication to his work, and his kindness to all who crossed his path will forever be remembered.
Richard’s kind heart and unwavering support endeared him to his family. He is survived by his loving daughters, Sonya Cox Cantrell (Gary) and Tammy Cox Neely (Stevie). Richard’s presence extended to his grandchildren, Megan Moody (Weston), Matthew Smith (Ashleigh), Madison Hudson (Clayton), Jay Cox (Elizabeth), Jacob Cantrell (Emily), Travis Adams, Emily Adams, and Tripp Neely, who brought immense joy to his life. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, LillyAnn Smith, Kooper Moody, Kobin Moody, Beckett Smith, and River Hudson; and three brothers, Ralph (Sue), Tommy (Sue), and Ronnie (Debbie).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Smith.
The family will receive friends on February 19, 2024, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park, Travelers Rest, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
