Ruth Messer

Ruth Hodgens Messer, 99, of Travelers Rest, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at The Cottages at Brushy Creek, Greer. She was born in Greenville to the late Frank and Myrtle Griffin Hodgens and married for 64 years to the late Grady Messer. A homemaker and a devoted member of Clearview Baptist Church and the Guiding Light Sunday School Class. Surviving are two sons, Ronald Laura Messer of Landrum and Gary Gayle Messer of Columbia; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Kilby; and two brothers, Roy and Jack Hodgens. She was predeceased by five brothers, two sisters, and her step-mother. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 1:30 pm in the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. Chris Hall. Visitation will be 12:30 – 1:30 pm preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon St., Greenville, SC 29605.
