Stephen Grant Shumate, 46, of Greenville, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Born in North Wilkesboro, NC he was the son of Carol Furr and Richard and Eve Shumate. Stephen was a Senior Collections Analyst for Synnex. In addition to his parents he is survived by sisters, Alissa Rawleigh, Angela Kail, and Cynthia Chasteen; nieces, Ava Rawleigh and Aurelia Kail; nephews, Cole Morgan and Brenden Chasteen; grandmother, Clair Shumate; and his personal angel, Rhonda Cowles. He is also survived by an extended family of both blood and heart. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile and love of life. A Visitation will be held Sunday July 6, 2014, from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m., with a Memorial Service to follow at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Steve requested everyone who comes, come dressed like you are coming to hang out at his house to visit. Wear your favorite bear t-shirt, shorts, jeans, however you would dress to spend an afternoon in his kitchen being entertained. Heartfelt condolences to Steve's family.

Although I did not know Steve very long, I felt like I had known him for years. Even at the end of his life, he still had a radiant smile and a love for life. You will be missed! I send my deepest felt condolences to his family especially Carol, Rhonda

I didn't know Steve that well, but only met him one time. He was a barrell of laughs and had others laughing. He was a good man and will be missed by many. Rest in Peace and may God be with you every step of the way on those Golden Streets.

God saw Steve getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered "Come to Me". A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

Steve was a good friend and will be missed and never forgotten. Sorry for the loss.
