Tony Jaeger

Anton "Tony" Jaeger, 67, of Simpsonville, husband of Eileen Jaeger, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2012. Born November 29, 1944, in Elek, Hungary, he was the son of the late Adam and Elisabeth Braun Jaeger. Tony enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a medical technician during the Viet Nam era. In 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Eileen, and continued during those busy years, to pursue his education, work and raise a family. Tony's career as an engineer in New York City and Long Island spanned over 30 years. He was a member of a professional organization called The National Association of Power Engineers which is the oldest engineering society in the country. Its purpose is through education to ensure safe, expert, professional engineering practices in the power field of commercial Boiler and Cooling equipment. In this Association, Tony held many offices including being elected as Nassau County, Long Island President in 1984 and again in 1990. Being committed in the service of educating others, he went on to become New York State Association President in 1995. Volunteering his time and energy for over 20 years was a very rewarding experience for him. In 2000, Tony accepted a job transfer from Long Island to Greenville, SC and loved it here from day one. He decided to take early retirement in 2008 to spend more time traveling and to pursue his hobbies of cooking, gardening, fishing, and reading. A devoted family man with a strong work ethic, he will be remembered by all who knew him. Tony was a man of many talents and enjoyed working on home improvement projects for himself and his children right up until shortly before his death. In retirement, he still shared his knowledge and experience and at the time of his passing was the Vice President of an HOA condo board in New Braunfels, Texas where he and his wife reside several months of the year. Previously, he had been on the Architectural Review Committee at his Simpsonville subdivision. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Eileen, are two daughters, Lisa Gennardo and husband, Chris of Massapequa Park, Long Island, and Jennifer Jaeger and husband, George Cheeseman of New Braunfels, TX; a son, Anthony Jaeger and wife, Catherine, of Bristol, CT; adored grandchildren, Lauren, Lucas, and Olivia Gennardo, Nicholas Cheeseman, Ryan and Alexander Anton Jaeger. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wilhelm; a sister, Teresia; and a grandson, Scott Hunter Cheeseman. Visitation will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast, 1604 NE Main Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Center of the Carolinas, 3 Butternut Drive, Suite B, Greenville, SC 29605, or Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29680. The Jaeger family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark O'Rourke, Father Joseph Romanoski and Nurse Betty S. for their compassion during this difficult time.
