W.L. Powers, 87, of Mauldin, former resident of Southern Oaks Residential Care, died Sunday, February 2, 2014. Born in Lowell, NC, he was a son of the late William L. and Kate Hall Powers. W. L. was a member of First Baptist Church of Mauldin and retired as their custodian. He was owner of Powers Lock and Key and was the Past Master of the Judson and Truman Durham Masonic Lodges. He and his wife were members of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed magic tricks, bird watching, and playing bingo. He is survived by sisters, Millie Ford of Mauldin and Barbara Waldrup of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Ruby Mae Cox Powers and his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Marian Baker and Ruby Cash; and brother Frank Powers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mauldin. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
