Wayne Davenport, 86, husband of Dorothy "Dot" Bishop Davenport, died Friday, February, 19, 2010 at Oakmont East Nursing Center. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Joseph Terry and Lucia Ballentine Davenport. Mr. Davenport was retired from Haverty Furniture and had been a member of Earle Street Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Betsy Poole and husband, Chuck, of Greenville and Barbara McMillan and husband, Ken, of Edgefield; a son, Malcolm "Mack" Davenport, Jr. and wife, Dean, of Florence; seven grandchildren, Kelley Sheaffer and husband, Scott, Elliott Poole and wife, Lara, Erin Gambrell and husband, Ryan, Lauren Cole and husband, Lee, Kinley McMillan, Kathleen Lynch and husband, Brandon, and Jennifer Davenport; and a great grandchild, Lexi Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Douglas Davenport; and a sister, Sara Carter. Memorials may be made to Earle Street Baptist Church, 225 W. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Earle Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Shepherd's Care and Oakmont East Nursing Center for their compassionate care toward Mr. Davenport.
