William Gifford Solomons, Jr., 85, husband of Rebecca Eleazer Solomons, died Sunday, May 20, 2012. Mr. Solomons was born in Allendale County, SC, on land deeded to his family by the King of England. He was the son of the late William Gifford Solomons, Sr. and Louise Vowell Solomons. Mr. Solomons was a 1950 graduate of the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, a World War II United States Army Veteran, a Deacon and Elder Emeritus of the Estill Presbyterian Church and, the owner of Gifford Seed and Feed Store in Estill, SC. Along with his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Louise Solomons Anthony, and husband, Gene and Gail Solomons Baxter, and husband, Rhett; three grandchildren, Amy Roddey, and husband, Michael, Karen Babb, and husband, Steve and John Dustin Baxter; four great grandchildren, Kailee Babb, Morgan Babb, Bryce Roddey, and Ava Roddey; and sister, Marion Solomons McKenzie. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:15 p.m., with the funeral service following at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel. A visitation will also be held Friday, May 25, 2012, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Peeples Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street, West, Hampton, SC. Burial will follow at Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill, SC at 4:00 p.m. The world has lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and soldier; but Heaven gained an angel. Flowers will be accepted, however, memorials may be made to Estill Presbyterian Church, 108 Clarke Avenue, PO Box 306, Estill, SC 29918.
