William Leon Southerland

William Leon Southerland, 88, died Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at Laurel Woods in Columbus, NC. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Emory W. and Mamie Lister Southerland and husband of the late Evelyn Galloway Southerland. Mr. Southerland retired from W.P.N.F. Radio Station in Brevard, NC and was formerly affiliated with W.F.B.C. radio station. He was a member of Monaghan United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Rachel S. Wilson and her husband D.B., of Greenville, SC; a son, Rev. Gerald Southerland and wife Linda, of Rutherfordton, NC; a granddaughter, Lisa Williams and husband Mart; two grandsons, Greg Southerland and wife Suzanna, and Jeff Southerland and wife Jill; two great granddaughters; and two great grandsons. A private graveside service will be held Friday at Graceland Cemetery, West at 11:00 am. A memorial service will be held Sunday at Monaghan United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Word of Faith Christian School, 207 Old Flynn Road, Spindale, NC 28160; Monaghan United Methodist Church, 2 McBeth Street, Greenville, SC 29611; or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722. The family is at their respective homes.
