Eugene “Gene” James Baur Sr., 86, husband of Betty J. Baur, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.
Born in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Michael Adam Baur and Dorothy Sheahan Baur.
Gene served in the US. Navy and met his wife while stationed in Pensacola, Fl. In 1968, they moved to Anderson where they raised their family until his retirement from BASF as an engineer. While living in Anderson, Gene was very active in community theatre where he was able to fulfill his love for singing. He attended Clemson University and was a diehard Tiger and Greenbay Packers fan. An avid lover of all sports, he was known by his children as a fierce competitor.
He was most proud of his children and grandchildren which he considered his greatest accomplishments.
A parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Simpsonville, he was a member of the Men’s Bible Study Group.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years and five children; Barbara B. Hansen (Ron) of Anderson, Michael L. Baur (Laura) of Simpsonville, Eugene J. Baur, Jr. (Rhonda) of Duluth, GA, Patrick A. Baur (Vicki) of Marietta, GA, Sharon B. Hill (Terry) of Anderson; and his four legged “child”, Scamper. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; Brent, Evan, and John Thomas Hansen, April Davis, Ashley Sellers, Ben, and William Baur, Blake, Zachary, and Carson Baur, Tyler, Haleigh, and Hannah Cromey, Matthew Baur, Olivia Cleveland, Natalie, Adam, and Amelia Hill; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Julieanne Williams (Larry) of Georgia.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of The Cascades Memory Care for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul c/o St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 8 Gillin Dr., Simpsonville, SC 29680; or the charity of one’s choice.
The Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast followed by a time of visitation. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 14th at 12:10 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
