John “Jack” Esper, 89, widower of Margaret Ann Melko Esper, of Greenville, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
Born in Cleveland, OH, he was a son of the late Joseph and Leona Kunzen Esper.
John served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. He graduated from Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, OH in 1947 before earning a bachelor of science business administration degree from John Carroll University in 1957. John worked for Sherwin-Williams for two years, and then for Union Carbide for 37 years, later becoming Amoco, and continuing his career for six years.
He is survived by nine children, Craig Esper (Delores), Diane Hudgens, Robert Esper (Judy), Gregory Esper, Thomas Esper, Valerie Burton (David), Barbara Terlesky (Robert), Marie Ferguson, and Margie Olmsted (Dan); 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Father Jerome Esper, C.S.C.; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Melko Hendrickson (Allen).
In addition to his parents and loving wife, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Esper; a son-in-law, William Gary Hudgens; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Ann Esper; two brothers, Father James Esper and Joseph Esper; and a sister, Jeanne LiPera.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with the Vigil service to follow at 4:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 12, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Entombment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
