It is with great sadness that the family of James Brian McKelvey, 75 of Simpsonville, SC announce his passing on November 6th, 2018. Jim was born on December 2nd, 1942 in San Luis Obispo, CA. He was the first son of the late Ralph S. and Betty (Conzelman) McKelvey.
Jim grew up in Belleville, IL where he graduated from Bellville, HS and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Business degree from Northwestern University in 1964. He met the love of his life at Northwestern, Johanna (Josie) Gates and they married on August 16th, 1964.
Jim had a successful business career in the aluminum extrusion industry for over 40 years. This included among other things owning and building two separate companies. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy. He will be sorely missed for his quick wit, his compassionate heart, and his unfailing encouragement to family and friends.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 54 years Johanna (Gates) McKelvey, his daughter Kathleen Jones and husband Christopher of Duluth, GA, his two grandsons Patrick James and Nicholas Brady, his sister Jane (Rick) Cochran, brothers Robert (Marty) McKelvey and Scot (Kristie) McKelvey, seven nieces and nephews and two dogs.
A celebration of his life will be held at Simpsonville United Methodist Church on Monday November 12th at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or Greenville Humane Society 305 Airport Rd, Greenville, SC 29607.
