John C. "Buddy" Henderson, III, 71, of Simpsonville, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020.
Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late John C. "Bud" Henderson, II and Faye White Henderson.
Buddy and his family moved to Mauldin when he was five years old. He was a 1966 graduate of Hillcrest High School. He started his college career at Clemson University in the fall of 1966. After which, he attended Gardner-Webb University, University of North Carolina, and ultimately graduated with honors from Georgia Southern University. Later on, he did some post-graduate work at the University of South Carolina.
Buddy and his wife Donna, owned and operated the successful tanning salon, Hawaiian Tans in Mauldin, for many years.
He was a member of Holly Tree Country Club, where he was an avid golfer from 2000-2009. Buddy also coached baseball for several years and was a rock-n-roll enthusiast. He enjoyed traveling throughout the Caribbean and other islands.
Time would not permit for the countless stories of traveling to all the Bowl games and National Championship games for the Clemson Tigers (Go Tigers!). To say he was an avid lover of the Clemson Tigers would be an understatement.
In addition to his son, John C. Henderson, IV, of Simpsonville, and his mother, Donna Henderson of Taylors, Buddy is survived by his sister, Anne Reed Henderson of Simpsonville; a niece, Susan Elizabeth Reed of Charleston and her fiance, Stephen Welt; and special extended family, Susie Woodall, Carol Holmes, and Lisa Woodall.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jay Holmes.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Southeast Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
