Katherine Lucille Childress

November 20, 1926 ~ August 9, 2018 (age 91)

Katherine Lucille Childress, of Greenville, SC, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 9, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 91 years old.

Born in Cramerton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Doyle and Ethel Evette Pinion.

She was the widow of James Oliver Childress, who passed in 2014.

Lucille devoted her entire life to her children and her husband. She loved the Lord and will be deeply missed by her family and her friends.

They were blessed with three children, Gary Childress (Kay) of Westerville, OH; Kenneth Childress (Nancy) of Greenville; and Brenda Rivard (John) of Greenville. They had one grandchild, Kimberly Pils (Chad) of Gainesville, GA, and two great grandchildren, Lydia and Julia Pils of Gainesville. Lucille is also survived by a sister, Nancy Shannon of Greenville, and three brothers, Doyle Pinion (Lois), David Pinion, and Joe Pinion (Patsy).

Lucille was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

The family members are at their respective homes and will receive family and friends at a visitation to be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, 639 N. Main St., Greenville with a memorial service to follow in the chapel at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be held in Graceland East Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greenville, 301 University Ridge, Greenville, SC  29601.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the caregivers and medical staff at Brushy Creek Rehabilitation and Care Center in Greer, SC for the care and concern given to our Mother for the past 6 years, and to Kindred Hospice of Spartanburg, SC.
