Mrs. Lois Jenkins, widow of Mr. James Edgar Jenkins departed this life on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Greenville County, after an honorable life of service. She was good-natured, high spirited, sensitive care-giver, loving mother, wonderful grandmother, an excellent cook, sassy dresser, and a woman full of wisdom.
Mrs. Jenkins was the youngest of three children to the late Dee and Celia Cobb Little. She was reared and educated in Greenville County.
At an early age, Mrs. Jenkins began working to help her mother after the death of her father. She worked at the Old Poinsett Hotel. She continued working domestically for Dr. David Reese and other prominent families until she entered the medical field as a lab assistant in 1963 for Internal Medicine Associates where she retired. Mrs. Jenkins always exceeded expectations and won admiration and respect from her employers, co-workers, and patients.
She was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since the tender age of five. Her faithfulness was that of joy as she served on the Usher Board for 72 years. Other services include President of Nurses Guild, member of Sunday school class for 45 years, and member of the Happy Toilers.
Mrs. Jenkins is survived by five grandchildren, Sandra Deloris Rice McQuillan (Kenny), Rosa Diane Rice Vera (Juan), Brenda Patricia Rice Bates, Norma Vanessa Rice Kambeya (Kambeya Wa Kambeya), and Cedric Timothy Rice; son-in-law, Norman E. Rice; 12 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; and 8 great-great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and loving husband, Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy J. Rice; granddaughter, Cheryle Lucille Rice; sister, Lucille Little Leeks; and brother, Clayton Little.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Resthaven Memorial Park.
