Mary Barron Galloway

Mary Barron Galloway, 77, widow of Robert Stone Galloway, Jr., Greenville, died March 10, 2005. Born in Rock Hill, she was a daughter of the late John Galloway Barron and Sara Strong Barron. She graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill and received her Masters Degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mrs. Galloway taught history and coached basketball in Beaufort and Anderson County schools and retired from Greenville Senior High School. She was a member of the Greenville County Library Board and was the first woman to serve as its Chairperson. She was an accomplished golfer who competed in the South Carolina State Amateur Golf Championships and the Virginia-Carolina team matches. She was a member of the Greenville Country Club, where she was President of the Women?s Golf Association and won the Women?s Club Championship on multiple occasions. She was also an avid gardener and bridge player. Surviving are a son, Robert Stone Galloway, III and his wife Margaret of Greenville; a daughter, Elizabeth Agnew Galloway and her husband Charles H. Jones of Ormond Beach, FL; a sister Anne Barron McArthur of Columbia; and two grandchildren, Eleanor Barron Galloway and Robert Coker Galloway both of Greenville. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605 or to the charity of one?s choice. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, March 13, 2005 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Robert and Margaret Galloway.
