Maude "Dee" Pope Reid, 85, widow of Grover Eugene Reid, of Greenville, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Miller and Lucille Hunt Pope.

Dee was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Mary Martha Circle, and Meanderers Club. She graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1947 and met alumni regularly, and attended Winthrop College.

Dee enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and handiwork. Over the years, Dee was a member of sewing groups and many considered her a mentor as she was always willing to share her skill and knowledge. She was an avid reader and was known for her frequent visits to the Public Library to get a new stack of books. Dee enjoyed historical fiction and British writers and novels. She was always on top of current events and did not miss an opportunity to exercise her right to vote.

Dee was full of wit and treasured by all of her family whom she dearly loved.

She is survived by two sons, Grover "Raz" Reid (Kerry), of Hilton Head, and Kenneth Andrew Reid (Jane), of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Kati Johnson (Erik), Kimi Schell (Jacob), Rachel Gandee (Troy), Jacob (Harley), Bennett (Kara), Hunter (May), Patrick (Casey), and Kelsey Reid (Bailey); 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Herbert Pope (Janet); and a daughter-in-law, Susan Bridgers, of Greenville.

In addition to her parents and loving husband of 62 years, Dee was preceded in death by a son, Preston Reid; and two brothers, Miller and Hewlett Pope.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Matthew United Methodist Church with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Entombment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Remembrance Chapel.
