Ernest "Ernie" Chapman, 78, husband of Barbara Schreckengost Chapman, died Thursday, July 2, 2009. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest D. and Yolanda DeCaro Chapman. Mr. Chapman was owner of Foothills Restaurant in Marietta and also produced mustard based barbecue sauce. He was a member of St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church. He was retired from the United States Air Force, following 27 years of service, and served during the Korean War and Vietnam. He also served in the Diplomatic Corps. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Sharon Alexander of Marietta and Linda Knickerbocker of Pratville, AL; two sons, Craig Chapman of Marietta and Jeffrey Chapman of Pickens; two stepdaughters, Tamara Rowe of Pine Lake, GA and Teresa Karig of Bulls Gap, TN; two stepsons, Harold Nelson of Travelers Rest and Scott Nelson of Greenville; two grandchildren; and five step grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 13, c/o Ronnie Alexander, 1396 Milford Church Rd., Greer, SC 29650. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009 with visitation following until 6:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence, 113 Oakland Dr., Greenville, SC.
