Imogene Bledsoe Gambrell, age 86, daughter of the late James F. and Emelia (Mella) Chancellor Bledsoe, passed July 17, 2017, at Open Arms Hospice in Simpsonville, SC.

Mrs. Gambrell was born in Louisville, MS, and moved with her family to Greenville, SC, in 1942. She was a 1949 graduate of Greenville High School where she was an honor student and member of the Greenville High School Band and Orchestra. She was an avid genealogist, tracing the Bledsoe and Chancellor families back to the year 1050.

Her love of music and lessons began at an early age. She learned piano, violin and flute. Her desire to teach others to appreciate their God-given talents began at age 14. She was involved in music education wherever she lived.

While living in Burlington, NC, with family, she was an active member of the Burlington NC Woman's Club. She was chairman for several years of the Sallie Southall Cotton Scholarship Awards Program. She was a member of the NC Watercolor Society. Her paintings hang in several homes.

After her husband's death in 1992, she returned to Greenville, SC. She was an active member of the Music Club of Greenville, whose primary goal is to furnish instruments and award advanced music scholarships to deserving students. She supported Southside Christian high school band and orchestra. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Harper Gambrell, Jr., her parents, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by sons: Gary Clyde Gambrell and wife Mary Robin of Bonita Springs, FL; Joel Harper Gambrell and wife Wanda of Knoxville, TN; Kyle Lee Gambrell and wife Summer of Tampa, FL; daughter Susan Gambrell Leek and husband William of Genoa, NY; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 11:00 am at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 516 Piedmont Road, Easley, SC 296452.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church and Music Club of Greenville, 8 Badger Drive, Taylors, SC 29687.
