Our beloved Mother, Luz Maldonado Perry passed gently into heaven on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Born December 13, 1921, in Laredo, Texas she was the daughter of the late Enrique R. and Francisca Maldonado.

Luz grew up in San Antonio. She joined the Army during WWII and met her future husband at Fort Gordon in Georgia. Serving in the military created a deep love for her country and she never passed a US flag without a salute. She lived for many years in Greenville on North Florida Ave. and being fluent in Spanish she was very active in the Hispanic community and was known as "Mama Luz". She served twice as a short term missionary to Mexico with Washington Avenue Baptist Church. She worked outside the home at the Parker Plant and for the City of Greenville Permit Center.

She is survived by six children, Jannette Henderson (Steve), Joyce P. Turpin, Douglas Perry (Melinda), Judy Lubbert ( Wesley), Jean Brown (Jack), and Dennis R. Stark (Peggy); 20 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, W.D. Perry.

She instilled in her children a respect of Christian values, love of education, and country. She was loved by all who met her and brought joy to everyone.

She lived her life following her favorite Bible verse; "Love one another as I have loved you".

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the kindness and care given to their mother by the staff of NHC in West Columbia, SC.
