Michael Monroe McGrady was born on February 5, 1959 and passed away on November 7, 2017 at age 58 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Greenville to parents Marion Monroe and Anne Covington McGrady.
Mike is survived by his children, Marisa Anne and Michael Joseph McGrady; their mother, Jennifer McGrady; four sisters, Marianne Van Name (Paul), Cindy Woodlief (John), Elizabeth Reynolds (Lex), and Katherine Loftus (Pat); and thirteen nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike attended St. Mary's School, followed by Eastside High School where he played varsity basketball as a member of the Class of 1977. He graduated from Clemson University in 1981 with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Throughout his career as a software developer, Mike relied on his abilities of developing great rapport with customers as well as analytical skills with Respect Technologies.
Mike was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he gave generously of his time and talent to benefit the parish. Mike's faith in God was the organizing principle of his life. He gave generously of himself to support friends, family, and church.
He loved radio-controlled airplanes, the guitar, and the Clemson Tigers. In his extra time, he was constantly volunteering to help others with their computer problems. It is a testament of his character that he remained close friends throughout his life with his childhood friends from Rosemary Lane.
Mike had gifted conversational and friendship talents. He could make anyone feel at ease and he was a faithful friend. Mike brought light and life to family gatherings for weddings, funerals, and holidays.
Memorable experiences in Mike's life included the 1977 Eastside High School state championship basketball game; his service to St. Mary's as a DJ for school dances; the unforgettable 1980s music video "Turkey Stuffing Party" featuring himself and friends; serving as either godfather or confirmation sponsor to his many nieces and nephews; giving his sisters away at their weddings; and a visit to the Vatican.
The central joy in Mike's life was being the father of Marisa and Mike, whom he cherished beyond words. They were seldom out of his mind and never out of his heart.
