Ruth Joyce Ide Mackenzie, 91, wife of Dr. Kenneth John Mackenzie, Jr., of Greenville, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017.

Born December 20, 1925 in Camden, NJ, she was the fourth of six children to the late Thomas Nathaniel and Mary Ross Ide.

Ruthie graduated from Upper Darby High School in Pennsylvania and attended West Chester State College. She worked for many years at Colonial Mortgage Company, leaving to raise her children. Ruthie was a proud member of the DAR for over 50 years and served as Regent of the Behethland Butler Chapter in Greenville. She was a former member of the Greenville Women's Club and the Greenville Country Club. Ruthie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville.

She enjoyed travelling, antique shopping, going to the beach, and being with her family. Ruthie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother by those she leaves behind.

In addition to her loving husband of 56 years, she is survived by four children, Andrew Mackenzie (Lynn Barrett), of Greenville, Barbara Jeffries (Terry), of Salt Lake City, UT, Douglas Mackenzie (Jennifer), of Charleston, and Dr. Nancy Hammond (Kurt), of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ellen Evans (William); two brothers, William Ide (Doris) and Richard Ide (Ann); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her loving parents, Ruthie was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ide; and a sister, Betty Reihmer.

A visitation will be held Monday, September 18, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Downtown chapel. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Ms. Joyce Hawkins for her loving care and attention to Ruthie over the past two years. She brought Ruthie joy and comfort every day. They also wish to thank the staffs of Pruitt Health Hospice and the Haven for their gentle and attentive care.
