Barbara McAlister McCard, 51, of 2 W. Golden Strip Drive, wife of Dean McCard, died Sunday, August 29, 2010. Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Eunice George McAlister. Mrs. McCard was a retired special education teacher with Child's Haven and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was an associate member of the Greenville FOP Lodge #17, the NRA, Trick and Traction Four Wheel Drive Club and was a Shrine wife. She loved cruising to the Bahamas and especially loved Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sisters, Ann Shook and husband, Jay, and Nancy Carroll all of Seneca; a brother, Sam McAlister and wife, Margaret, of Townville; a very special niece, Brandy Lynn Shook of Seneca; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. She was a special mom to her three special needs rescue cats, Benjamin, Sissy, and Tiger as they were with her constantly. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 37 Villa Road, Suite 109, B-111, Greenville, SC 29615. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with visitation following. The family will be at their respective homes.
