Elizabeth “Libby” Dean Brissey, 66, beloved wife of William C. Brissey, Jr. of Greenville, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, February 10, 2020. Born in Greenville, SC on November 4, 1953, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Dean, Jr. and Elizabeth Josephine Camerio Dean. Libby attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Greenville High School. After receiving her BS in Accounting from Columbia College, Libby began her career in accounting and continued her education at Furman University. She spent a number of years taking evening classes in order to achieve her CPA certification. Libby retired as a CPA at Greenville Hospital Systems after 35 years of service.
Libby met her husband William at a social function, and the two enjoyed a slow and meaningful five-year courtship before tying the knot. When Libby said “I do” that day in Northgate Baptist Church, she lovingly became not only a wife but a mother and grandmother all at once. Her enormous heart and generous spirit enabled her to succeed in all three roles! Libby will always be remembered for her quick wit, kind heart, and generous spirit.
She was an independent woman who took great pleasure in organizing social events and parties for family and friends. She was the ultimate hostess when the holidays came around and loved preparing delicious Italian meals to celebrate the season and her heritage. Libby also organized and hosted many Pampered Chef events at her home, mostly for the enjoyment of having get togethers and talking about food with her friends. Her family remembers how “Aunt Libby” always gave special presents to each of the children in the family at Christmastime. Even as her memory and health were challenged in recent years, Libby managed to calculate the exact number of gifts needed to make each child in the family feel the spirit of Christmas.
In addition to her husband, William, she is loved and mourned by her children Amanda Wood (Gregg Deshields) of Taylors and David Brissey (Dawn Napoli) of Piedmont; grandchildren, Kyle Wood, Lucy Deshields, Tanner Napoli-Brissey, Joey Napoli and Whitney, Hannah, & Zack Andrews and their father, Stevie Andrews; six great-grandchildren. Libby also leaves her brother, Dr. John Thomas Dean, III and his wife Joanne Pizzuto Dean of Easley as well as nieces and nephews, Lisa Dean Porter of Easley, Shannon Dean Gilbert of Douglasville, GA, Jennifer Dean Lockhart of Greenville, John Thomas Dean, IV of Easley, Amanda Dean Wakely of Greenville; 10 great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.
Libby was predeceased by her daughter, Sonya Lynn Andrews.
