Gerald Layton Waldrep, 77, of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Coleman and Agnes Campbell Waldrep.
Mr. Waldrep served proudly in the United States Army where he met his bride, Rosa, while stationed in Germany. He worked for American Spinning for 18 years and retired from Michelin Tire Corp after 23 years. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Waldrep was an avid train collector and had quite an extensive collection.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rosa; son, Gerald Waldrep Jr. (Tammy), daughter, Chris Nix (Dean); four grandchildren, Brandon Waldrep (Kayla), Kayla Westbrooks (Josh), Austin Nix and Alex Nix; two great-grandchildren, Kenley and Noah Westbrooks; and a brother, Wayne Waldrep.
Although no formal visitation will be held, the family invites friends and family to view a tribute in honor of his life Friday, October 16, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The family appreciates those attending to follow the CDC guidelines on Social Distancing and wearing a mask. The family will have a private memorial service the following day.
