Irene Bednar Karandisevsky, 85, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 surrounded by family.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, October 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Bednar. Irene and her family moved to Greenville, SC where she lived for 53 years before moving to Columbia, SC for the last four years. She was a devoted Catholic and faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville and Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia.
While Irene was a stay at home mother to her five children, she worked part-time at American Aluminum Foundry founded by her late husband and his father in Greenville, and for several years as a first-grade teacher’s aide at Saint Mary’s Catholic School. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club, participated in several Catholic Cursillos, and supported the many activities of her late husband’s deacon ministries.
Surviving are daughters Karen Gaillard (Gil) of Taylors, SC, Maribeth Corbett (Ken) of Columbia, SC, and Suzanne Lampros (Andrew) of Kennesaw, GA; son John of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Jason Corbett (Jennifer), Patrick Gaillard (Lauren), Julianne Gaillard, Sarah Corbett, Peter Lampros, Liza Lampros, John Lampros, Taylor Shores (Austin), Chandler Karandisevsky, and Kyle Karandisevsky; and great grandchildren, Addyson and William Gaillard, and Hayden and Brooklyn Corbett.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Deacon John Francis Karandisevsky; her son, Robert Karandisevsky; and her sister Helen Eli.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, 639 N. Main Street, Greenville, SC. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Taylors, SC. The Rite of Committal will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville.
