James "Jim" E. Laney, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
Born May 3, 1938 in Clinton, SC, he was the son of the late Jesse Earle and Clyde Colvard Laney.
Jim was a graduate of Greenville Technical College where he received an Associate Degree in Business Administration. He retired as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing after 29 years with Meridian Dyed Yarn Co. (formerly Franklin Dyed Yarn Co. / Carisbrook Industries.)
Mr. Laney was a member of Laurens Road United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and on various church boards.
In addition to his wife of over 60 years, Dorothy A. Laney, he is survived by his sons, James Robert Laney and wife, Kathy, Kenneth Randall Laney and wife, Suzanne, and Michael Armstrong Laney and wife, Bobbie; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one brother, Gary Robert Laney and wife, Gail.
Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Laney Hooper; and a brother, Jack O'Neal Laney.
Due to the CDC and State of South Carolina public guidelines for social distancing, there will be no public visitation period for the family to receive friends. For those wishing to view, the body will lie in state Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel with limited seating to allow for social distancing followed by burial in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gray Court, SC. Services will be conducted by Pastor Laura Bratton. The family appreciates those in attendance following the CDC recommendations on wearing a mask.
