Pauline Ballard Rainwater, 103, of Greenville, formerly of Rockingham, NC, wife of the late Woodrow "Bill" Rainwater, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

Born in Richmond County, North Carolina, Pauline was one of 13 children born to the late R.H. and Addie Cloninger Ballard.

Pauline worked outside the home for most of her life retiring at the age of 99 after 15 years of service at The Fresh Market in Greenville. She loved flowers and enjoyed quilting in her spare time.

Mrs. Rainwater attended Edwards Road Baptist Church in Greenville.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda and Roger H. Johnstone of Greenville; two granddaughters, Angela and Ken King of Rock Hill, SC and Stephanie and Chris McDonald of Cornelius, NC; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Nicholas Taylor and Ryan, Lydia, and Ellis McDonald.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Wilbert Rainwater.

A private funeral service will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery in Wallace, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a worthy charity of one's choice.

Linda , I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother. I have thought about you and your family many times. One favorite memory was one night when I was spending the night with you and your grandmother. Miss Annie covered us up during the night. I've thought about that night many times. I remember playing with doodle bugs at a tobacco barn.

I wish I hadn't lost contact with her. She was a very sweet lady. I didn't realize her birthday was a day after mine. I have some very fond memories of her, your Dad and you. My memories of grandmother were at your house too. Your Mother even loved my Daddy too. I knew she was with you when she left Rockingham but didn't know where you were. I'm sorry for your loss but so happy you had her with you. I remember her large family and going with you on Sundays to visit. Please call me sometime and let's catch up.
