Sigrid "Sigi" Adelheid Kerl, 87, devoted wife of the late Helmut R. Kerl, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 21, 2021.
The oldest of seven, she was born to the late Franz and Anna Samland in Bischofsburg, Germany.
Sigi met Helmut while in Germany, they married, immigrated to the U.S., and started their family in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mrs. Kerl was a member of Church of the Nativity in Burke, VA where she worked at the church school for twenty years. After she moved to Greer, S.C. last June, she attended Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Sigi was the most amazing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother "Oma", great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She had a zest for life and an abundance of energy.
Her memory will live on with her three loving children, Ingolf "Ingo" Kerl and his wife, Janet of Charlottesville VA, Carmen Fitzgerald and her husband, Jeffery of Round Hill VA, and Marvin Kerl and his wife, Kimberly of Greenville, SC; previous daughter-in-law Polly Kerl-Murray and her husband, Tim; seven wonderful grandchildren, Erin Phillips and her husband, Ryan, Jacob Kerl and his wife, Nicole, Luke, Rachel, and Nicholas Kerl, Ciara Fitzgerald, and Allison Kerl; four adoring great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Finley, and Francis Phillips, and Liam Kerl; two brother and three sisters, all of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmut, who passed in 1991, and her beloved son, Monty Kerl, who passed in 1984.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at her home church, Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA on March 27, 2021 at 12:00 p.m.
