Ambrose Mazzola, 90, of The Springs, 214 E. Curtis Street, died Friday, January 12, 2007. Born in New York, Mr. Mazzola spent most of his life in southern California, before moving to Cleveland, OH, and then to Simpsonville in 1979. He was predeceased by Margaret Anne Peggy Gillespie Mazzola, his loving wife of 61 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Mr. Mazzola was recently recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME for achieving 50 years of service to the profession. In his retirement years, he was actively involved with the Powderhorn Homeowner?s Association, as well as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Greenville Literacy Association, Birthright of Greenville, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Mr. Mazzola is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kate Beals of Simpsonville, SC and Janet and James Moore of Atchison, KS; three grandchildren, Daniel Moore of Philadelphia, PA, Laura Moore of Omaha, NE, and Benjamin Beals of Spartanburg, SC; a sister, Florence Gipple of Downey, CA, and a brother, Frank Mazzola of Houston, TX. He was predeceased by two brothers, Nicholas and Joseph Mazzola. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Simpsonville. The Rite of Committal will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 218 Trade Street, Greer, SC 29651, or to any of the local organizations for which Mr. Mazzola volunteered.
