Eleanor Vivona, 102, widow of James I. Vivona, MD, died Sunday, January 12, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jerome Alberti and Paula Sugamele DePerro. Mrs. Vivona earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Education from Brooklyn College. She retired from a career in education as a middle school teacher and adjunct professor. She spent many years teaching English as a Second Language for Greenville Literacy. She was a teacher at heart and was always open to new experiences. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her many close friends. She will be missed greatly. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Mrs. Vivona was an early member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. She was an avid quilter and member of Foothills Piecemakers Guild. Surviving are three daughters, Jacqueline Rice, of Greer; Paula Plum Peter, of Cape Coral, FL, and Catherine Vivona, of Reston, VA; eleven grandchildren: Danielle Hays, John O'Connell, Michael O'Connell, James O'Connell, Stefanie Fisher, Wendy Rader, Christine Elliott, Jeffrey Rossini, Nicole Rossini, Peter Rossini and Bradley Rossini; eighteen great grandchildren; and a brother, Michael DePerro, of Girard, OH. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Vita Rocco, James Alberti, Jennie Giordano, Stella Moore, and Felix DePerro; and son-in-law, Richard Rice. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will follow after the Mass at Croghan Hall. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 615 Slaters Lane, P O Box 269 Alexandria, VA 22313 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
