James Heustion "J.H." "Doug" Hunt, 84, of Greenville, loving husband of Vera Gregory Hunt for 60 years, died August 26, 2009. Born in Dacusville, he was a son of the late Henry Franklin and Ruby Ila Looper Hunt. J.H. graduated from Dacusville High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II on the LSM-72 in the New Hebrides Islands of the Pacific. J.H. retired from Southern Bell after 36 years, and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a charter member of Berea Friendship United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Huckaby Sunday School Class and the Inspiration Group. J.H. was a former Boy Scout leader for Troop 216. He loved rabbit hunting with his beagles, fishing, and was a life-long gardener. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jane Hunt Grady Dr. John Grady of Mount Pleasant; sons, James Steven Hunt Sharon of Irmo, Jeffrey H. Hunt Reba of Inman; grandchildren, Greg H. Hunt, Mary Allen Hunt, Bridget B. Grady; a sister, Betty H. Nalley Bud of Easley; and sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Hunt of Pickens and Doris B. Hunt of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edwin F. and Norwood E. Hunt. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2009 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Berea Friendship United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berea Friendship UMC, 8001 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29617.
