Leonard R. Summey

Leonard R. ?Slick? Summey, 83, of 225 Courtney Circle, died on Friday, January 12, 2007. Born in Transylvania County, NC, he was a son of the late Hubert and Ethel Burns Summey. Mr. Summey served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Co C. 33rd Armored Regiment of General Patton?s 3rd Armored Division. He was founder and co-owner of B & L Mechanical, Inc. Mr. Summey was a member of Buncombe Road Baptist Church for over fifty years where he held various positions including teller for seventeen years, usher, personnel and properties committees? member. He was a Master Mason for over fifty years at Sam Poe Lodge #284. He was also an avid Gamecock fan, golfer, hunter, and all around sports enthusiast. Mr. Summey devoted his life to providing abundant loving care for his family and all those around him. Surviving are his wife of fifty-nine years, Bert Vickery Summey; two daughters, Judy Barksdale and husband Joe, and Kay Smith and husband Ronnie; two granddaughters, Christy Kellett and husband Robby, and Lori Tribble and husband Kevin; two grandsons, Kevin Barksdale and wife Kelli, and Michael Douglas; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Summey. He was predeceased by a sister, Pali Summey; and a brother, Elsie Burns. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 7:00 ? 8:30 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Services will be held on Sunday at Buncombe Road Baptist Church at 1:30 pm. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family would like to give thanks to Hospice and all the physicians and nurses who have helped with Mr. Summey?s care over the past seven years.
