Monte Riggins

June 18, 1954 - December 19, 2010
Monte Steven Riggins, 56, of 219 Coldwater Drive, husband of Marie Lewis Riggins, died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Self Regional Hospital. Born in Greenville, the son of Pat Bryant Riggins Friar of Taylors and the late Charles Riggins. Mr. Riggins was an electrician and member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church. He was an avid Harley Davidson Motorcyclist and member of Bikers for Christ. He was a sponsor and volunteer for Faith Home in Greenwood. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are two daughters, Amanda Riggins Smith and husband, Eric, of Pickens and Dr. Stephanie Johnson of Spartanburg; granddaughter, Savannah of Pickens; two sisters, Deborah Price and husband, Bob, of Lake Toxaway, NC, and Pati Riggins-Cooper and husband, Mitch, of Ninety Six; a brother, Scott Riggins and wife, Margaret, of West Columbia; and step sister-in-law, Nancy Friar of Taylors. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Avery Friar; and stepbrother, Rick Friar. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605 or Bikers for Christ, 121 Henderson Street, Greenwood, SC 29646. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. in the downtown chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the home of his mother.
