Raymond Smerdon

Raymond F. "Sarge" Smerdon, 75, husband of Lena Smerdon for 25 years, passed away on January 6, 2009. Born in Methuen, MA, he was the son of the late Russell Smerdon and Celina Feys Kenney. Raymond was a retired Sargeant First Class in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a retired lineman from Williams Electric and a very involved member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Ray Smerdon Jr., Tim Smerdon and wife Tina, Cathy Batson and husband Randy, Lori Sammons and husband John, Donna Zoltowski and husband Mark, Heather Saunders and husband Bob, Matthew Bridges and wife Renee, Jonathan Smerdon and wife Alicia; a brother Kenny Smerdon, a sister Nancy Hajjar; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by his first wife, Betty J. Smerdon; three brothers and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Suite A, Greenville, 29615; Winyah Hospice, 880 S Pleasantburg Dr., Suite 1a, Greenville, SC 29607; Solid Rock Baptist Church Blackberry Valley Road, Greenville, SC 29617. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Terri Hall at Creative Health and Mandy Dorn at Winyah Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with burial following at Greenville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 8 at 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. The family will be at the home.
