Austin Boyce

Austin Boyce of Ft. Myers, Florida passed peacefully on April 29th, 2006 at the age of 87. He joins his late parents, Arvin Ray and Ruby Boyce, brothers, Louie and Melvin and sisters, Kathryn and Hazel in heaven. After graduating High School, Austin served his country with honor and pride in both the Army 1940-1945 and the Navy 1945-1949. His service and dedication is respected by many. ?Pops? as his family so proudly and fondly called him never met a stranger. He retired from General Motors in 1973 as a clerk and returned to South Carolina in 1989 to work as ?The World?s Best Wal-Mart greeter.? Austin moved to Ft. Myers soon after to be closer to his family. Austin is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nellie Mae ?Johnnie? Mull and his five daughters, Brenda Richard Sellars, Sandy Denny Hudson, Shelby Robert Kasten, Vickie Dennis Bone, and Darlene Bruce Vanderveen. Austin also leaves behind his brother, Arvin Jr. and sister, Mary Sue. Pops couldn?t be more proud of his 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchilren. He is remembered as a faithful and loving husband and a devoted and kind father. His soft touch and warm smile will be missed by all who knew him. One of Austin?s favorite past times was to get the better of his sons-in-law in hearts and checkers. He often mentioned how rewarding it was to have great men court his beautiful daughters. To him, they are the sons that he never had. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with visitation prior to the service from 10:30 ? 11:45 am. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, West.
