Grace Gossett Foushee, 89, of Greenville, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, following a brief illness. Born in Rocky Mount, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Day and Lola Carolyn Taylor Gossett. Mrs. Foushee was reared in Lillington, NC. After her marriage to Sam Leon Foushee, she moved to Durham, NC and was a homemaker and mother to her four children. She and her husband moved to Sanford, NC where she lived for a number of years and later moved to Greenville in 1990 after her husband's death. In Greenville, she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities including president of the Methodist Women. She had served in that same position at her prior church, Jonesboro United Methodist Church in Sanford. She also served as a volunteer with Hospice and with The Greenville Hospital System Auxiliary. Mrs. Foushee volunteered with Greenville Area Housing Network, helping to care for the homeless. She was a woman of deep and abiding faith and served as an inspiration and role model for her immediate and extended family. Surviving are her three sisters, Edith Strickland of Rocky Mount, NC, Ruth Brown of Durham, NC, and Evelyn Hazlik of Glendale, CA; one brother, Norman Gossett of Lake Gaston, VA; three daughters, Carolyn Duncan and husband Tom of Greensboro, NC, Lynn Rowell and husband Dr. John Rowell of Greenville, Gwyn Anderson and husband Dr. Vernon Anderson of Greenville; one son, Sam Foushee and wife LaRae Schneider of Emeryville, CA; eight grandchildren, Chris Anderson, Dr. Alan Anderson, John Anderson, Caroline Rowell Sasser, Dr. Jonathan Rowell, Dr. Erin Rowell Schmidt, Catherine Duncan, and Mary Cheatham Duncan King; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother, and two sisters. Following a private burial, a celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville.
