Morris Melvin, 86, husband of Ruth (Fowler) Melvin, of Greenville, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
Born in Sampson County, NC, he was a son of the late Henry J. and Tishie Harris Melvin.
Morris was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He was in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and finally ending his military service by serving on Vice President Spiro Agnew’s personal staff from 1968-1972.
In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, he is survived by a daughter, Eva M. Bragg (Jack), of Greenville; a son, Henry C. Melvin (Elaine), of Conestee; three grandchildren, Melissa Aderhold (Brian), of Anderson, Michelle Bostick, of Greenville, and Nancy Harrison (Wayne), of Melbourne, FL; three great grandchildren, Alessa Norton, of Greenville, Michael Norton, of Greenville, and Hailey Harrison, of Melbourne, FL; and a great-great grandchild, Ember Parrington, of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, Morris was preceded in death by his twin brother, Marshel “Casey” Melvin; two brothers; and three sisters.
A visitation will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Downtown chapel. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
